ISSUE #72

Hello and welcome to Indiepocalypse!

Indiepocalypse is a curated monthly collection looking to highlight the very best of the alternative indie game scene.

Each month features games by 10 different developers, including a newly commissioned game exclusive to the bundle-zine. The games cover a wide variety of styles, genres, and themes as they fight against any definition of "indie game" as a genre.

Also, and this part is very important to me and should truly be taken as given, each contributor is paid and developers are paid royalties on all future sales.

This Month's Games

SkyDream (Physical) by Filip Zdunek, Chandler Passafiumé, Detaia

SkyDream is a 1-on-1 storytelling game about two chosen souls locked in a duel as they sail through a powerful cosmic storm.

Grab a friend and play out an epic duel, or use the tools in this book to help flesh out your own characters and their backstories!

The Ghost Inside (Physical) by Avri

You have always been here.

Walking in the half-light, down unchanging corridors, through carbon-copy doorways.

Afraid of every bump in the dark.

You do not remember who you are, who you were, how you got here.

If this is a punishment.

A reward?

You only know you must find the exit.

You have found yourselves lost in a maze.  There is no preset genre or setting.  The maze could be here and now, or there and then.  Or anywhere in between . . .

Your answers inform who you are, where you are.  Maybe you will find answers.  Maybe the mystery will remain.

It is the journey that is important not the destination because the destination may not exist.

MEGA BEASTS Y2K (WIN/MACX/Linux) by Claire Morwood

MEGA BEASTS Y2K is a print and play game about drawing and combining animals with your friends, then competing with them in a tournament where you argue who would win in various categories. It's a game for 2-10 players and takes 30-90 minutes (depending on the number of players). All you'll need to play is the pdf and some pens and paper!

a machine walks on the beach at night (WIN/MAC/Linux) by solflo

FUCK AI (WIN/MAC/Linux/PS Vita) by Pikario

You were making pancakes with your partner listening to the radio, the speaker announces that ClosedAI will boot its new Artificial General Intelligence. Suddenly the power cuts. That's enough, you have to do something.

Shoot all the AI in your way and try to unplug the AGI.

HitoPetto! (Physical) by Norbez Jones

The Dreamer wants the dreams to last forever.  The Dreamed want them to stop.  Whose will shall win out in the end?  Find out in this TTRPG game where you can:

-- Care for your Dreamed by feeding them, styling their hair, change their outfit or makeup, and wipe up their waste

-- Communicate with your Dreamer when they allow it, via the Chat system

-- Make a video game splash screen from your nightmares and hope your Dreamer understands it

-- Think about the Dreamed during your daytime hours and see how they affect you

-- Spell out messages to your Dreamer with things like hair, poop, and food

This game is intended for duet (two-player) play, but it can also be played solo, or with multiple Dreamed & Dreamers.

Chagrin d'amour (WIN/MAC/Linux) by PBeS Studio

"Chagrin d'amour" is a game made with Pico 8, it's a very tiny small platform game that can be completed in a few minutes. There are currently 49 levels. In each one, you need to collect all the hearts to move on to the next level before time runs out.

You can jump and fly a little, and breathe fireballs. Beware of lava and spikes. Watch out for the ghosts, they're super annoying. If you beat the game under 10 minutes, you could try to beat the hard mode.

Season 31 (WIN/MAC) by Cal

April 2131.

Cars are racing in a deserted half-industrialized countryside. Things go great, things go bad. Everything will be alright.

A game experimenting with management, loss, weirdness and retro-future.
