ISSUE #66

Cover - PimientosDulces

Hello and welcome to Indiepocalypse!

Indiepocalypse is a curated monthly collection looking to highlight the very best of the alternative indie game scene.

Each month features games by 10 different developers, including a newly commissioned game exclusive to the bundle-zine. The games cover a wide variety of styles, genres, and themes as they fight against any definition of "indie game" as a genre.

Also, and this part is very important to me and should truly be taken as given, each contributor is paid and developers are paid royalties on all future sales.

This Month's Games

My Beautiful Misinterpretation of Words (WIN/MAC) by Jiuya Lin

A firework show of games(?) – aka, a collection of experimental art games. Welcome to my mind.

Computer Engineering (for dropouts) (WIN) by Dallas

When studying for finals, you fall asleep and need to do some quick cramming for your computer engineering exam! If ~15 minutes of logic gate-on-brain action appeals to you, then this weirdly personal game might scratch that itch.

MEDUSA (WIN/MAC/Linux/Browser) by Ether Nepenthes

Bring it out now, o silver water!

Bring it out, the serpentine crown!

- - -

MEDUSA is a short, introspective, transformative experience on reclaiming your monstrosity and becoming your own Gorgon.

nibbling cheese (Browser) by maaruska /

you can customize your cheese and walk around the enclosure.

lombric (WIN/Linux) by pierre de laet, guillaume pauli, angelo patane, eliot niedercorn

in lombric you'll get to manage your own little terrarium filled with worms. gathering and selling worms allows you to buy new upgrades for your terrarium, you'll need them for when the night comes...

Frog Bard (WIN) by Moon Candy

Frog Bard is a short, poetic experience about finding inspiration in the world around you. Explore a simple forest and perform reflective ballads as you travel from inn to inn.

Please note that Frog Bard is a short (5-10 minutes) but re-playable experience. This game features an original song played on a guitar that was now modified so we'll never hear that guitar play this song again!!!

Ini the Kappa | Rating Sponges (WIN/MAC) by Tyler Wright

Ini the Kappa:

Ini the Kappa is a throwback to those old 90’s-era computer desktop pals, only you’ll find that he’s not all there… Help restore Ini the desktop pal to his old kappa self!

One late night I was playing around with Girkov Arpa's .ini RPG Engine and had a weird little idea about a kappa trapped in a .ini settings file. If you're going to download this little guy, just be cautious as kappas tend to be mischievous!

Rating Sponges:

You’re the world’s leading spongiologist (yes, that’s a thing). Rate the sponges from your least favorite specimen to favorite. If you're lucky, you might even unlock a few secret sponges for your rare sponge collection!

Fun fact: You’re playing the first sponge rating game in history.

Sqwrk (WIN) by The Voices Games

Sqwrk's tribe have been captured by the evil golem. Help him rescue them in this fast paced 3d platformer with momentum based movement

momentum based platforming with wall running
defeat enemies with a homing dash attack
levels have different side challenges to complete
Requires a controller because you need precise analogue control.

Live, Love, LIGHT (WIN/Linux) by Pakkanoek

Ever wondered what happens in the mind of a moth when it is aggressively harassing a lightbulb? Find out either way in this weird little experience.

Arrow keys to move around.

Electrical engineering for dropouts bring me so many conflicting feelings. Glad to see it picked up for Indiepocalypse. Interesting selection as always, can’t wait to try everything.
